What is this book about?

Volume II of The Three Musketeers. Laid against a romantic background--the period of Louis XIII, Queen Anne of Austria and Cardinal Richelieu--is the story of a Gascon adventurer, the immortal D'Artagnan, who wishes to enter the famous corps of Louis XIII's Musketeers. He arrives in Paris on a raw-boned pony with only a few crowns in his pocket and on his first day in that city entangles himself in three duels with three of the most dreaded members of the King's Musketeers. But he wins their friendship by his pluck and spirit, and from that time on the four of them share their fortunes, good and bad, and are the heroes of many breathtaking episodes.
