What is this book about?

This powerful and lusty story of backwoods life far south of Tobacco Road tells how Preacher Love Gudger and his no-count son Luke have a profound and disastrous effect on the lives of these carefree and happy people, especially the widow Conroy and her tantalizingly attractive daughter. Gudger began twisting the Devil’s tail in northern Mississippi, and blazed a trail of hellfire and damnation across the Deep South before he wound up in this little community of "Florida Crackers."
